GNR

Armed force established by the Italian Social Republic with two decrees, issued in December 1943, which carried out police functions, both internal (and therefore also political) and military. Parts of it were the members of the former MVSN (Volunteer Militia for National Security), the former Carabinieri and the former members of the PAI (Italian Africa Police). On 21 August 1944 Mussolini himself assumed the command of GNR.
