GDD

Initially established in Milan at the end of 1943 with the name “Women’s Defense Groups and Assistance to Fighters”, they are groups of women, mostly socialists and communists, organized and available to fight against fascism and Nazism. The GDDs promoted numerous events and trained female SAPs. In the summer of 1944, the GDD was recognized as an organization adhering to the CLN. After the war, they transformed into the “Italian Women’s Union” (UDI) association, still present in the area today.
