Fascism

Italian political movement founded by Benito Mussolini in 1919, inspired by the Fasces of Revolutionary Action and based on far-right nationalist, authoritarian and totalitarian thought. He came to power in 1922 with the March on Rome on October 28, after many assaults by the action squads (squadristi) against socialists, communists, republicans, popular and parliamentary representatives. He governed Italy with a dictatorial regime until 1943: the fall of Mussolini’s government however led to the rebirth of fascism in the northern regions, where the Italian Social Republic was organised and recognized only by the Axis countries.
