Pippo

Nickname attributed by the Italian population to the planes used by the Allies to fly over and often bomb population centres and infrastructures. His presence became familiar over time, even though his actions often led to damages and deaths. The Allies devised a special Night Intruder mission, during which a certain number of aircraft were sent individually behind enemy lines to hit specific objectives, such as railway freight yards, radars, airports, bridges, river crossings, or targets of opportunity, that is lights located on the ground below.
